KARIJINI PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP
Early Arrival
Early arrival in Newman. Airport transfer to accommodation, after a meet and greet with the rest of the group and a welcome speech, we will have dinner all together at one of the locals in Newman.
Day One
NEWMAN. Our Karijini workshop begins at 8.30am in the lobby of our accommodation. Airport pick-up available on demand.
On the way to Karijini, we get off the beaten track to view recently discovered ancient indigenous art. As the day drawn to a close, we set-up camp in the breathtaking Karijini Eco Retreat scenery and enjoy an early meal prepared with fresh Western Australian local produce at the retreat restaurant.
Time allowing will explore Joffre Gorge Lookout before dinner and if the conditions are good, test our astrophotography skills and have a crack at capturing the Milky Way!
Day Two
KARIJINI NATIONAL PARK. It’s photography time! Three full day is the perfect amount of time needed to explore the Karijini National Park and its amazing gorges. Formed over 2,500 million years ago, the Hamersley Ranges are some of the most unusual land formations on earth. Deep in the gorges you’ll come across cascading waterfalls and still water holes, a little paradise for both novice and experienced eyes, offering amazing photo opportunities. Dales Gorge, Fortescue Falls, Fern Pool, Circular Pool, Weano Gorge and Hancock Gorge are just some of the stunning areas we’ll get to explore.
Optional sunrise a short walk from camp on day two to capture the iconic Karijini landscapes. Joffre Gorge in the morning followed by the mesmerising Hancock Gorge, Spider Walk and Kermit Pool in the afternoon.
Optional astrophotography session in the evening.
Day Three
The third day of our Karijini photo workshop will take us to some new locations in this national park.
Early start to be in position for first light to capture the soft pink morning glow as it unfolds over Dales Gorge. After a well-deserved breakfast and a fresh brew, we continue exploring the serene beauty of Fern Pool and Fortescue Falls.
After lunch, we shift focus to a dedicated post-processing session, working on the images captured the day before. We’ll be there to guide you through more advanced steps, offering personalised feedback, tips, and techniques to help bring your images to life.
As the day draws to a close, we head to the western entrance of the park — a true hidden gem and one of the best locations to capture the raw essence of the Australian Outback at sunset. Free time follows after dinner.
Day Four
Departing Karijini Eco Retreat early in the morning, we travel west along 80km of rugged dirt road to Hamersley Gorge — home of the iconic Spa Pool, one of the most photographed locations in the Pilbara.
After lunch in Tom Price, we continue on to Kalamina Gorge, one of the most underrated gems in Karijini National Park and one of my personal favourite places to photograph in the entire region.
Dinner is followed by an optional nightscape photography session under the outback sky.
Day Five
Another early start to beat the crowds. Keeping the best for last, this morning we’ll capture the mesmerising splendour of Weano Gorge, just a short drive from camp.
Deep in the heart of Karijini, the Handrail Pool trail has been carved over billions of years, revealing ancient geological formations shaped by water and time into narrow passages, sculptural curves, and dramatic drop-offs. As you descend, the light shifts constantly — bouncing off iron-rich rock walls and filtering into hidden pockets of still water and shadow. For a photographer, it’s a dream of texture, contrast, and composition, where every turn reveals leading lines, abstract patterns, and intimate scenes that capture the raw essence of Karijini’s ancient landscape.
After breakfast we’ll pack-up and head back to Newman. Our ETA is planned around mid-afternoon, allowing you to catch your flight later that afternoon or in the evening if you are flying back home today. 235kms
There is a STRICT luggage limit of per person, in a soft suite case or soft bag (Camera equipment not included in the 18kgs).
